CleverMaps platform supports several visulization types on how to display data in a map. These are Administrative units, Heatmap, Dotmap, Grid, Lines and Zones. Customized Polygons are to be implemented soon.

User interaction

Change the visualization type by clicking on Visualization menu in the upper part of the screen. Some of the visualization types provides different levels of detail. You can change the level of detail in Granularity menu next to Visualization menu.

Every visualization type is suitable for particular purpose. Read more about individual visualization types here: Administrative units, Heatmap, Dotmap and Grid.

Limitations

The specific structure of data does not allow all data to be displayed in all visualization types and level of detail. There are two main restrictions:

Metrics specification

Certain metrics are bound to specific administrative divisions only and could not be displayed via hexagonal grids (for example Population). Some metrics can even be bound to just one level of granularity. In such cases, it might not be possible to:

  • display the detail of an indicator, if currently selected granularity is not supported by the metrics
  • switch to different levels of granularity, if the detail of restricted indicator is currently open

Zoom level

Zooming out to display huge amounts of polygons in the map could pose serious demands on your browser's performance up to crashing it completely. That is why we have to set an upper limit to the zoom for each level of granularity.

If you hit the ceiling when zooming out and want to zoom out even more, make sure to change the granularity to a lower level of detail.

Levels of granularity that do not support the current zoom level are marked with "+" icon. Selecting such granularity will automatically zoom the map to the closest supported zoom level.
