When to use our Customer Touchpoints KPI reporting template

Customer Touchpoints KPI reporting template is a ready-to-use solution for visualization of spatial data and fundamental location analysis. There is no need for installation, no need to learn GIS, and no need to prepare a relational data model. You just upload one dataset of your customer touchpoint with location coordinates. The rest of the hard work will be done by our innovative computational engine packed in the template. In the end, you are presented with an interactive map interface where you naturally see insights into your data.

You can use this solution with KPIs with your customer touchpoints and its KPIs. Your customer touchpoints must have location coordinates. Minimum columns of your CSV file:

  • shop_id - unique ID of your customer touchpoints

  • name - the name of your customer touchpoint

  • type - the type of your customer touchpoint e.g. type 1 / type 2 or wholesale/retail

  • address - any address

  • lat - latitude

  • lng - longitude

  • kpi_1 - any KPIs, e.g. Turnover

All the columns mentioned above are mandatory for Template - 1 Key performance - customer touchpoints.

However, if you have more Key performance indicators, you can use our other Templates:

Template - 2 Key performance indicators - customer touchpoints

Add the columns mentioned above and one additional column:

  • kpi_2 - any KPI, e.g. Costs

Template - 3 Key performance indicators - customer touchpoints

Add to the columns mentioned above and two additional columns:

  • kpi_2 - any KPI, e.g. Costs

  • kpi_3 - any KPI, e.g. Customers

Template - 4 Key performance indicators - customer touchpoints

Add the columns mentioned above and three additional columns:

  • kpi_2 - any KPI, e.g. Costs

  • kpi_3 - any KPI, e.g. Customers

  • kpi_4 - any KPI, e.g. Visits

An example of data is always available for every Template here:

Valuable insights you can get from this spatial analysis:

  • Where are the customer touchpoints with the highest / the lowest turnover geographically concentrated?

  • Which customer touchpoint has the highest potential to grow (the highest number of customers but low turnover per customer)?

  • Which customer touchpoints should be closed because there is no potential to extend (low number of customers, low turnover, and many customer touchpoints in the same driving distance)?

  • Where is a potential location for expansion?

  • Do your stores cannibalize over each other?

  • How much of the turnover comes from individual customer touchpoints from the entire network?

  • What is the turnover per customer?

  • What is the Cost / Income ratio?

  • How many stores are within 15 minutes of driving from your planned warehouse?

  • What is the turnover or number of customers in customer touchpoints located in the map's selected area?

Questions this solution will help you to answer:

  • Complex overview of your network from many different perspectives in one dashboard.

  • Which customer touchpoints should be praised?

  • Which customer touchpoints have significant problems and should be closed?

  • Which customer touchpoints have issues and need attention?

  • All fundamental analytics indicators in one place.

Click on the Use with my data button. In the following dialogue, fill up the new project name.

Step 3: Prepare your data.

The template requires data in a CSV format. You can export it from any spreadsheet software (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Numbers for macOS,...) or a database. CSV must be comma-separated and follow a precise structure. It must contain precisely seven columns in the following order:

  1. Shop ID - a unique identifier of a customer touchpoint. If your customer touchpoints don't have a unique ID, you can use a row number.

  2. Name - the name of your customer touchpoint—for example, CT 1, CT Wien or your custom description.

  3. Type - the type of your touchpoints. The number of types can be various. For example, type small / type medium or retail/wholesale.

  4. Address - Address of your branch

  5. lat - latitude - the geographic coordinate value which represents the location of data. Typically it is obtained directly from a GPS device or derived from an address. Check the How to get coordinate values section below or read an article Latitude on Wikipedia for more details.

  6. lng - longitude - the geographic coordinate value which represents a location of data. Typically it is obtained directly from a GPS device or derived from an address. Check the How to get coordinate values section below or read an article Longitude on Wikipedia for more details.

  7. kpi_1 - contains your own KPI 1 for a specific touchpoint. It could be any KPI, e.g. Turnover.

Seven columns mentioned are needed for the template Customer Touchpoints - 1 Key performance indicator

Column kpi_2 (8th column) is needed for Customer Touchpoints - 2 Key performance indicators

  1. kpi_2 - contains your own KPI 1 for every branch. It could be any KPI, e.g. Costs.

Column kpi_3 (9th column) is needed for Customer Touchpoints - 3 Key performance indicators

  1. kpi_3 - contains your own KPI 3 for every branch. It could be any KPI, e.g. Customers.

Column kpi_4 (10th column) is needed for Customer Touchpoints - 4 Key performance indicators.

  1. kpi_4 - contains your own KPI 4 for every branch. It could be any KPI, e.g. Visits.

You can find more details in our article Data requirements for templates.

To help you, we prepared a sample CSV file in a proper format. You can download it after you create your project.

How to get coordinate values

Latitude and longitude values can be obtained directly from a GPS device or derived from real-world addresses. The derivation process is called Forward geocoding.

You can find a lot of tools to do the job. Use any you like. If your dataset contains up to thousands of rows, you can find tools for free. We recommend:

  • Geocodeapi allows users to upload a CSV file with addresses and append new latitude and longitude columns.

  • OpenCage supports many ways to geocode. For example, direct plugins to Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.

  • LocationIQ provides an HTTP endpoint that accepts geocode requests with an address and returns a response with coordinates.

The sad reality is that automated geocoding is not errorless. Real-world addresses can be written in many formats in each country, and computers have problems understanding them. For best result, manual address format unification precedes, and manual error cleaning follows.

If you need to geocode larger datasets or have any problems with the process, please contact us through support@clevermaps.io, +420 608 726 006 or a web form.

Step 4: Load the data into a template

When you have a properly formatted CSV file and stored it on a local disk, you can load it to a Branches. Click at the Upload file button and select the CSV file or drag and drop it in a marked area. If the file is not in the correct format, the template tells you to fix it and try again. If the problem persists, check our Data requirements for the templates article.

Step 5: Adjust indicators (optional)

For better readability, you can rename indicators and add its unit to reflect your data's values better. Open the indicator menu and click on the Edit indicator option.

The indicator has a title and description based on metric because we would like to let you choose your own KPIs. So, for example, if your KPI 1 isn't Turnover but the Number of employees, then rename it.

How to analyze your data in the Customer Touchpoints KPI reporting template

The great thing about our map is its interactivity. It is not a static picture to look at. Click on the Customer Touchpoints to get the value of the indicator. Look at the animation above how indicator values are dynamically recalculating based on selected touchpoint or touchpoints (you can select two customer touchpoints with the shift key).

Or even you can select your touchpoints by the spatial query. For example, find out SUM of KPI 1 from customer touchpoints in a 36 km radius around town Hagen.

It is possible to set up your filter to analyze your customer touchpoints network. You can select only 1 type of shop and or shops with higher KPI 1 and low KPI 2. The indicators then display only branches that accept your conditions. For example, I would like to see only touchpoints with high Turnover or low Costs.

You can see a more complex analysis, which is represented as Ratio indicators ( KPI per other KPI), e.g. Turnover per customer. For example, you can find out customer touchpoints with low turnover per customer and high customer costs.

You can find out the percentage of your KPI created by the specific customer touchpoint compared to all network.

You can explore the area around your branches in Street View or Satellite map.

Or you can search your branch based on branch title or subtitle (id/name/address columns).
